Official Day 1 of the 14 Day Sugar-Free Challenge

I am so excited that we have a good couple handfuls of people joining us on this yeast detox! It’s such a wonderful way to boost your cleansing rituals, while connecting with other creative, knowledgeable people.

My day started off with a gorgeous, energizing 2 hour walk with a couple of the DTW members. This was followed by 24oz of green juice, from my local health food store:

  • 3-4 lemons
  • celery
  • kale
  • romaine
  • parsley
  • ginger

This was closely followed by a coffee craving which I satisfied with a blend of Organic Avenue Juices:

  • 14 oz Coco Love (basic greens, with coconut water, no lemon)
  • 7 oz carrot juice
  • 1 tsp raw cacao
  • 3 drops vanilla stevia
  • cinnamon

All this juiciness culminated with a rocking colonic at LYT, with my therapist Cindy. We started using peroxide in my sessions regularly, which has taken the releases to a whole new level of awesome! Though I had not planned on juicing until dinner (in fact quite the opposite) I ended up having another OA juice: Cucumber with a touch of stevia. It was divine; reminiscent of cucumber/sake martinis I used to enjoy.

I have found that I was feeling too deprived juicing until dinner, so as part of my challenge I wanted to allow myself to eat durring the day when I felt the desire to. I had been playing with mid-day smoothie meals for a while, since the Rose Cleanse, but most of the time it would end with me having a dinner sized meal earlier than I would like; followed by dinner. Gotta watch for that pendulum swing! It is important to take note of what’s not working, and why. For me it is an emotional thing, as it is for many who cannot trust themselves around food. I deprived myself for so long growing up that my wild child just won’t take it anymore. I have found that simple, mono veggie snacks, have been really helpful getting me over the hunger hump around 3, and hold me over until dinner.

I am not being strict with this aspect though. I know that with my yeast under control, my cravings will be less “urgent”. We can only intelligently take on so many changes, and expect to be successful at sustaining them. As a pre-dinner (and pre-post) snack I had 3 goat cheese/cabbage/tomato/dijon/sunflower sprout “wraps”, and felt great! Having an activity to do after my snack is very useful as well.

For tonight’s, a goat-cheesy dinner will be had involving a large salad, and perhaps something along the lines of Pizza Style Veggies. I will keep you guys posted on dessert ;) . To be perfectly honest, I started the cleanse a couple of days ago.. So I have a dessert recipe to share with you guys from last night, as well as a raw sunflower-butter dressing (but that will come later)

Coco-Chia Lemon Pudding

serves 2

Blend:

  • 1 cup organic young coconut meat
  • 2 cups pure water
  • juice of 2 lemons
  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 3 dropper-fulls vanilla stevia

Pour over 4 tbsp. raw Chia seeds, divided into two seving bowls. Stir, and allow to sit for at least 30 minutes. Enjoy! Chia seeds can be internally lubricating, therefore awesome pre-colonic; not to mention tasty and fun to eat!

Chris had some paparazzi fun at my expense, so I am going to share with you my silly face (this is also another one of Rande’s suggestions)

Just a quick note: to supplement my efforts I am taking Dr Ohhira’s Probiotics, Candigone, and diluted 3% Food Grade Hydrogen Peroxide orally — I won’t talk about these much, unless I get questions.

How was your sugar-free day? Did anyone get creative?

Super Chocolatey Juice Carrot Sorbet Veggie Lovin Juice Spicy Coconut/Lemon Popsicle

Juice Fast Journal: Days 2 & 3 + Juice Fast Treats

So Day 2 was gloomy here in NY, and my energy and spirit definitely mirrored that. I had about the same amount of juice and veggie broth as I did on day one.. but it was hard to stop myself from thinking about chocolate. So, I went shopping. It wasn’t very satisfying, but going to the park didn’t resonate with me due to the weather. When I got home, I made this:

Super Chocolatey Juice

  • 1 small beet
  • 10 carrots
  • 2 celery sticks
  • half a bunch of kale
  • 1 romaine heart
  • 7 drops cocoa bean NuNaturals stevia
  • dash of cayenne

Later in the night I didn’t have any more juice, but after my cup of broth, I made this Carrot Sorbet (15 min in my ice cream maker)

  • juice of 6 carrots
  • juice of 3/4” ginger knob
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • dash of cayenne
  • 1/2 cup raw young coconut water
  • stevia to taste

I was freezing as a result of this tasty treat, so I enjoyed it tucked into my fluffy duvet, and ended my night with a warm cup of sleepy tea and a meditation.

On Day 3, I woke up feeling good and peaceful! A little hungry but it went away as soon as I had a nice big pot of Caramel Apple Tea w/ Lemon and Chai Spices. The weather was supposed to be hot and stormy, but I took my chances and headed to the Park around 1, where I was blessed with warm sunshine for a few hours as I drank 20 ounces of green juice. This held me over comfortably for most of the day, until about 4:30 when I made this concoction:

Veggie Lovin 35 ounces

  • 1 small beet
  • 3 carrots
  • 1 orange bell pepper
  • 1 handful dill + parsley
  • 5 pieces of celery
  • 1 large cucumber
  • 4 Roma tomatos
  • 1/2 lemon half peeled
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3/4” ginger knob

I got full of half, and really wanted dessert.. so I made 12 ounces of carrot juice, splashed with some warm water, and enjoyed it in a warmed mug with pumpkin pie spice. I thought I was done for the day, but as I alternated throughout my evening between reading and catching up on some favorite shows (for ex. Once Upon a Time) I started feeling deprived, and filled with a hunger that only food could satisfy. I wanted to not have juice anymore.. so I held back for a while. This was around 10pm. I enjoyed the leftover popsicle from the Spicy Lemon/Coconut Icy I had made the first day.. and then made more. That didn’t do enough for me! I laid in bed trying to fall asleep, and then finally gave in to a few more ounces of the veggie love.

I woke up early today, on day 4, feeling good and peaceful again, with the exception of some dull body aches. I am getting ready to break my fast later in the afternoon, after having had a fairly productive colonic session.. I was hoping for much more, but I think the introduction of light solid food will do the trick :)

I’ll be posting more tomorrow on the end of the fast.. and solid food!

Tomato Broth in the making Tomato Broth Savory Cream of Celery Juice Spicy Lemon/Coconut Ice

Juice Fast Journal: Day 1

Today was incredible! I had abundant energy, limitless joy, and didn’t go to bed feeling like I had skipped dinner. While a had a couple of creeping thoughts of just taking a bite of something, it was not at all the first day of a fast that I had experienced before! I felt blessed.

This is what I consummed throughout the day:

  • seven berry anti-oxidant tea w/ stevia
  • 11:30AM - 30 ounces green juice: celery, cucumber, romaine, kale, lemon, lime, ginger, basil
  • 4PM - 16 ounces cold pressed Organic Avenue Mellow Love green juice
  • 4:30PM - 16 ounces carrot/romaine/celery/ginger
  • 8 PM - 3 course dinner:

1. Savory Cream of Celery Juice:

25 ounces

  • 1 head celery
  • 1 large zucchini
  • 1 lemon half peeled
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • topped with a dash of paprika

2. Tomato Broth

(simmered all together for an hour, then strained): 1 cup; this makes more but that’s all I consumed to save room for dessert

  • 4 large tomatos
  • 3 unsulfured sun dried tomatos
  • 2 zucchinis
  • 1/2 packet baby carrots
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 small onion
  • 4 green onions
  • large handful parsley
  • large handful dill
  • top w/ paprika

3. Spicy Lemon/Coconut Ice

(blended) I consumed most of this, and when it was all melted I poured it into a large ice cube mould, with a plastic spoon, to make a popsicle for the next day. This is a great combo because even though it’s frozen.. it’s warming due to the spices!

  • 6 ice cubes (pure water)
  • 1/2 cup coconut water
  • 1 1/2 lemons juiced
  • 1/2 lime juiced
  • dash of ginger powder
  • dash of cayenne
  • stevia to taste

Tropic of Spicy Juice!!!

As any experimental juicer knows, sometimes you can end up with more juice then you had set out to make. After making an initial 32 ounce batch, I tasted it and my body instantly broke into a sweat! I realized it needed major adjustments.. it was just soooo spicy!! This a a larger batch than usual, so I am going to provide the recipe of what I acctually made, and the one for what it should have been initially. They are both ridiculously tasty.. and hot!! If you are looking for a green juice recipe for cold days.. this is it!

Initial 32 ounces, the way I should have made it:

  • 1 zucchini
  • 1 celery head
  • 1 lemon half peeled
  • 1 large handful parsley
  • 1 handful cilantro
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 1/2 cup pineapple (w/ skin if organic)
  • 1/2 jalapeño seeded

 Actual 50 ounces I made

  • 1 zucchini
  • 1 1/3 celery head
  • 2 lemons half peeled
  • 1 large handful parsley
  • 1 handful cilantro
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1/2 pineapple (w/ skin if organic)
  • 1 whole jalapeño
  • 3/4 cup raw organic young coconut water
  • 4 drops stevia

This actually works out great for me because I am working toward a juice fast in the next few days. I have been trying to do one all of April but it didn’t feel right, but with the start of the new month, I am feeling a positive shift. I have my massage and colonic combo booked for the first day, I am making my large batch of veggie broth tonight to last for the whole duration of the fast, plenty of reading, work and errands to keep me occupied.. and plenty of motivation to deepen my detox, and loosen up food’s stimulation grip on me. Wish me luck! xoxo

Sweet n Spicy Holiday Juice
Makes 32 oz
5 baby beets
8 celery sticks
2 baby bok choi
2 collars leaves
12 carrots
Run through a juicer, then pour into a mug, and top with:
1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
This is another juice that was made with whatever I had left in the fridge. Luckily, it’s delicious and perfect for getting the blood going (as well as the bowel). Beets are a great aid in making sure that we eliminate everything that is awakened and magnetized when juicing. Remember, it’s not a detox unless visible waste leaves the body. Happy cleansing :) High-res
